Overview
Montaje is a 768,000 SF mixed use building in Sommerville’s new Assembly Row development. We worked with our returning client Callahan Construction to complete this complex foundation system. The foundation is unique in that it was designed for 3 different end uses, lower level retail, a 20-story apartment building and precast garage. The weight of the 20-story tower required us to pour large footing mats, some in excess of 600 CY. The precast garage was layout intensive as each embed needed to land perfectly for the precast erectors. With proper upfront planning, coordination and attention to layout tolerances we were able to complete this project with minimal errors so the steel and precast erectors could construct without delay.
This project was unique for us here at Form-Up because it was for a mixed-use building. Typically, our foundations are built to support one use only; however, we wanted to take on this job knowing that it would require some additional brainstorming. Providing the foundations for a mixed-use building means we had to be creative and go along with the vision for the space.
For the jobs we do, we don’t use a cookie cutter form. We take every project seriously and treat every job as a specific vision with its own requirements. This job, like many others we do, required us to work with the client to ensure their vision for the space will be brought to fruition, beginning with the very foundation of the building.
